It’s 2025—and I’m still hearing it.

That financial planning has no future in Malaysia.
That Malaysians aren’t ready for it.
That if you choose to practice it seriously, you’ll never grow in this industry.

The same old refrain—10 years on from when I first made the decision to step into this space. Back then, my decision was to just move ahead with my personal convictions supported by the people that believed in me, in us.

To be honest, listening to the naysayers, I could easily respond with,

“Great! That means fewer competitors to serve an untapped and growing market.”

But that’s not the kind of scarcity mindset I operate with.

The truth is this:
The demand for financial planning is already greater than the number of credible, qualified planners available in Malaysia.
People are ready, they’re overwhelmed, overworked, and uncertain. They’re not looking for another product; they’re looking for clarity, structure, and someone to trust.

What we lack isn’t interest.
It’s awareness, access, and trust.
And it’s on us—the practitioners, the leaders, the firms to build that bridge.

From time to time, I’ve been contacted by practitioners who are curious about what a financial planning practice looks like, and what it takes to build one. I’ve been more than willing to share, whether it’s the way we operate, the frameworks we use, or the approach we take. I believe in transparency, and I have no issue with sharing those.

But let me also say this plainly:
To truly practice financial planning, you need more than a framework—you need coaching and guidance.
And while I’d love to help everyone who’s interested, the reality is that I simply don’t have the bandwidth to support those who are not affiliated with me or my firm.

This is not about being exclusive. It’s about being responsible.

Because giving partial support can sometimes do more harm than good.

So no, I won’t be discouraged by the voices that say “it won’t work.”
Because I’ve seen too many lives changed by proper planning.
And I know, we’re just getting started.
